SUMMARY:Curtain Wall 101 : Engineering approach to unitized curtain wall
DESCRIPTION:Conference of the CSCE Montreal Section\nThe CSCE Montreal section invites you to this november conference of 2022. For this occasion\, we have invited Maarten Knöfler\, engineer at Bleu Tech Montréal (of Permasteelisa Group) which is a company specialized in engineering\, project management\, manufacturing and installation of architectural envelopes. The presentation will focus on the design engineer's perspective on unitized curtain walls.\nSummary of the presentation\nA curtain wall system is a well known envelope system used on all ranges of buildings all over the world. The presentation will give an overview about the general engineering and construction principles of unitized curtain walls.\n\nThe presentation will focus on the general structural engineering aspects of this curtain walls subset including the structural movements\, the applied loads and load paths\, while also covering the general functions of an envelope system such as thermal and infiltration requirements. The specifications and aspects of specific curtain wall materials such as glass thicknesses\, silicone and aluminum extrusions will be looked into\, as well as related design challenges.\nAbout the speaker\n\nMaarten Knöfler has 5 years experience in curtain wall design. After his bachelor of Engineering in civil engineering with a structural focus from Concordia University in 2017 he started at Bleu Tech Montreal\, part of the Permasteelisa Group. In his role as structural engineer he worked on numerous project in the United States\, mainly in New York City and more recently in the San Francisco area. Some of the projects include One Vanderbilt\, 425 park avenue and the Newark Airport extension.\n\nDetails\nA certificate for professional development hours will only be given to those in attendance.\nPresentation Location: Pavilion D - D-5012\n\n\n\n
